CATANZARO CITY

Catanzaro (98,671 inhabitants, census provisional 2006) is the Capital City Region of Calabria. Situated strategicallyin the homonymous isthmus-the narrowest point of the Peninsula, just 35 kilometers from the coast jonica that it is important tirrenica-center, commercial and cultural hosting considerable administrative functions to regional level.

It is home, as I said, the government of Calabria Region, the Court of Appeal, the regional school, the Regional Military Command and most offices with jurisdiction throughout the Calabria. Catanzaro is, by 1982, home state university (although in previous centuries Italian unification was already the universities). His university, called "Magna Greece", focuses on the main floor of medicine, pharmacy and law as well as many innovative courses. It is the Archdiocese Metropolìta. The City has important cultural and modern structures, such as the new Politeama theater, designed by Paolo Portoghesi and the area of the museum complex monumental Saint John, the seat of important exhibitions, the outdoor Arena "Magna Greece"; and dell'Auditorium "Casalinuovo.

Facing the sea Jonio (boasts about 8 miles of beach and a fishing port), Catanzaro is close to the archaeological park of Scolacium.
